Journalists asked to create consciousness for public gain

KOHIMA: Director of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship department, Kovi Meyase, on Saturday informed that the department has trained 14,000 youth over the years and about 7000 have received job placements.

He informed this during a one-day media workshop ‘Vartalap’ on “Skill India and Digital India” in Kohima organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kohima, on Saturday. 

The official added that the youth have been placed in either job or wage employment, having gainful employment under the recognition of prior learning programme, which is a component of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme. Through PMKVY, the department provides youth with skills and upgrades it so that they are able to enter the market, become more employable and increase their earning potential, he said.

He has appreciated the Ministry of Skill Development and Employment for funding those programmes.

On digital India, he said the mission is achieving what it has targeted, that is, reducing the distance between the government and the citizens by providing transparent and more efficient delivery of governance.

He also informed that the department was selected to present a multi-skill programme in the recent chief secretaries’ conference that was held in the presence of the prime minsiter in January this year.

Meanwhile, the joint director of Information and Public Relations, I Simon Teilia, told a gathering of media personnel that real reporting begins with truthfulness and making a difference.

“The work of journalists should create consciousness for the public to gain,” Teilia said adding “Otherwise, if we continue the same journalism fearing that somebody is controlling us, we’ll have repercussions in the future.”

He challenged the gathering to dig deeper and try to find out things truthfully in this era of opposition-less government. This will benefit the public, he said, adding that the public gets “nothing” in the opposition-less government.

During the technical session, the deputy director, Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, and senior instructor, Menguzelie Suhu, spoke on information technology and communication.

Senior programme officer, Ruokuovizo Chupuo, and the programme officer, Yanger Longkumer, also in the programme.
