DIMAPUR — The Yimkhiung and Zeliang tribes on Saturday forged a historic bond of friendship at Jalukie town, pledging to strengthen peace, protect each other’s integrity and work collectively towards rebuilding Naga unity.
A press release informed that the landmark friendship meet—attended by Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, MLA Namri Nchang, Advisor Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor Keosiumew, and leaders of the Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation (NZPO) and Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC)—culminated in a joint declaration committing both tribes to sustained cooperation and mutual respect.
As part of the declaration, the two tribes resolved to stand united to promote peace among the Nagas, safeguard tribal identity and interests through Naga customary practices, and institutionalise the friendship by holding a joint meet every three years, hosted alternately by each tribe.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy chief minister lauded the initiative, describing it as timely and crucial at a moment when Naga society stands sharply fragmented.
He stressed that inter-tribal discord had become a major obstacle to Naga progress.

“Tribal disunity has turned into a stumbling block for our economic, social and political growth,” Zeliang said, asserting that only unity and cordial inter-tribal relations can strengthen the Naga people.
He highlighted that the Yimkhiung and Zeliang tribes share similar political, social, economic and geographical challenges, and expressed hope that the renewed friendship would enable both communities to grow together and contribute meaningfully to larger Naga unity.
Advisor Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor Keosiumew, MLA Namri Nchang, and leaders from NZPO and YTC also addressed the meet, echoing the call for sustained dialogue, trust-building and collective responsibility among Naga tribes.
The friendship meet was described as a significant step towards healing inter-tribal divides and rekindling the spirit of oneness among the Nagas.
