ICAR-NRC on Mithun conducts technology awareness programme

Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): In pursuit of its mission on Mithun farming and husbandry practices, CAR- National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM) Medziphema conducted a two-day technology awareness programme at New Pangsha Village of Noklak district on Feb. 16 and 17th.

An update informed that Hiazu Meru, Deputy Commissioner Noklak, and Dr. Kritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police (Noklak) attended the inaugural programme as special guest and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking at the programme, Meru encouraged the farmers to equip themselves with scientific technologies developed by the research centre, saying that Mithun occupies an important status in the socio-economic development.

In her speech, SP Noklak stated that the local farmers can also sustain themselves like farmers in Punjab and Haryana through regular learning and adoption of modern farming technique. Dr. M H Khan, Director of ICAR- NRCM also stressed on preservation, protection and propagation of Mithun germplasm, adding that farmers should maintain superior bull for breeding purpose and practice bull exchange programme among the Mithun rearing villages.

During the session, the scientist of the institute also showcased the technologies of Mithun farming model, developed by the research centre for scientific rearing of Mithun. Input materials such as barbed wire, CGI sheet, ear tag, mineral blocks etc. for establishing semi-intensive Mithun farming were distributed, it said.

Meanwhile, the inaugural programme was followed by farmer-scientist interaction and training on scientific Mithun farming for better return and productivity. Vaccination-cum-animal health camp was also conducted at natural Mithun habitat, wherein 50 Mithun received medication and vaccine on Feb. 17.

It may be noted that Noklak district has high Mithun population and sale of Mithun meat in the district is a regular affair for the people living in one of the remotest locations bordering Myanmar.

The scientist and research associates, who took part in organising the programme are Dr. S Sapuni Hanah, Dr. Lalzampuia, Dr. Kobu Khate and Dr. Benjongtoshi Imchen, it added.
