Union minister Lekhi launches North East on Wheels

Dimapur, Jan. 13 (EMN): The New Expedition (North East on Wheels) was launched on Thursday in New Delhi to mark ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

The minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, government of India, Meenakshi Lekhi attended the event (organised by Amazing Namaste Foundation) as the chief guest with other dignitaries including MD and CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange, Ashish Kumar Chauhan.

At the expedition, 75 riders will be selected to travel across seven states of Northeast in eight days covering a distance of about 9000 km. The expedition is set to flag off on April 8, 2022 from Guwahati, Assam to showcase the beautiful and resourceful Northeast India.

On their expedition, riders will experience the vibrant and rich culture of the region, their sustainable lifestyles, their food habits and the expedition will connect some of the important locations that are part of our country’s historic events including — Jowai, Moirang, Imphal, Kohima, Bumla Pass, Tezpur etc. — wherein the participants will be paying tribute to national heroes such as Rani Gaidinliu, U Kiang Nangbah, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Kanaklata, Jaswant Singh and others.

Lauding the initiative, Lekhi said that Northeast has a rich cultural heritage and is a storehouse of talent. It is one of the best examples of people living in harmony with nature, adding that such societal initiatives advocate much desired awareness about the region leading to empowerment while the Prime Minister’s call for Dekho Apna Desh, aimed at promoting domestic tourism and the Northeast is expected to benefit through this.

At the event, the minister also launched the website of North East on Wheels, which marks the beginning of registrations for the expedition and a total of 75 riders will be selected by a team of senior and experienced bikers from different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, at the launching programme, a song titled ‘Nikal Pade ’meaning ‘Set out/ Venture’, which captures the true spirit of young India ready to lead the future was launched.
