Wokha, Jan. 14 (EMN):
Englan Range Students’ Union (ERSU) organised its 27th general conference on January 14 at GPS, New Riphyim, with the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, as the special guest on the theme “Work is worship”.

Speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner has advocated entrepreneurship among the educated youth stating that job opportunity in the government has reached a saturation point. He added that jobs would always be there for those who are hard working and dedicated.

Attributing the outbreak of various diseases due to human recklessness, he stressed on conserving the environment. In this regard, he encouraged the gathering to be an agent for protection of the environment. He also urged the students to utilise technology wisely in order to enhance their knowledge.

Further informing that the district would start the Covid vaccination drive from January 16, he urged the gathering to support the authority in the vaccination drive and to restrain from circulating fake news.

Theme speaker and assistant professor of Mt. Tiyi College, R Chanchithung Kithan, stressed on the importance of ‘work culture’ to be self-reliant. He also advised the students to pursue knowledge with dedication, hard work and endurance in order to achieve success in life.

Earlier, associate pastor of New Riphyim Baptist Church Mhao Tsopoe said the invocation, while the welcome address was delivered by the union president Longshibemo Odyuo.

Short speeches were also delivered by the member of Englan Rang Village Councils’ Union, Nyimtsemo Odyuo, and the vice president of Lotha Students’ Union Chumben Khuvung.

Meribemo Tungoe was declared the newly elected president of ERSU for the term 2021-2023.
