The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, on Saturday informed that a total of 36 polling stations under Dimapur district would be manned by all-women team comprising magistrate and 4th grade staff during the upcoming general election scheduled on February 27.

Sachin also disclosed that a total of  860 polling officials have been assigned for election duties and 258 extra polling officials have been kept as extra reserve, if need arises, stated a DIPR report.

Jaiswal informed that a model voter-friendly polling station with all assured minimum facilities has also been set up at Burma camp and Phaipijung. He also informed that sufficient para-military forces has arrived in Dimapur district for conduct of peaceful, free and fair elections.

The DC has appealed to the voters to come and participate in the election process by ensuring ‘one man one vote’ and to celebrate the festival of democracy.

Report mentioned that in Dimapur district there are a total of 1,20,864 electorates representing three Assembly Constituencies (AC) that would go to poll spread across 172 polling stations.

He informed that 1 Dimapur-I AC has a total of 24943 electorates including 12793 male and 12150 female, while 2 Dimapur-II has a total of 58292 voters including 28882 male and 29410 female and 3 Dimapur-III with 37629 voters including 18633 male and 18996 female.

Meanwhile, the DC informed that process for dispatch of polling officials with election materials at various locations would commence on February 26 at 9 am.

Organisations vouch for ‘clean elections’

Various organisations Western Ao Youth Federation (WAYF), D Block Panchayat in Kohima and Urra Area Villages Youth Organisations (UAVYO) have passed resolutions to maintain peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming state general election scheduled on February 27.

The organisations have appealed to all the eligible voters to exercise their franchise wisely stating that it is not only the constitutional right but also the highest duty of citizen in any democratic society.

Western Ao Youth Federation (WAYF) has appealed to all like-minded citizens to exercise their franchise in electing the right representative, who would be the voice of the people. It has urged every eligible voters to perform their bounden duty to

prevent proxy voting and ensure clean election.

It has urged its members facing any act of coercion or intimidation to report on Helpline no. 8974851911. It further appealed to all the citizens to ensure free and fair election.

In another statement, D Block Panchayat in Kohima, in a joint meeting with the GBs and youth organisation on February 23 held at its panchayat hall, has unanimously resolved on the principle of ‘one man, one vote.’

It resolved that outsiders from other colony would not be allowed to cast proxy vote adding that no outsider intruders would be allowed to enter in any polling station.

It has resolved to initiate stern action against any person whether from its colony or outside, who disturb the polling process. It further resolved that serving tea/ snacks in the polling station would not be allowed.

Meanwhile, the Urra Area Villages Youth Organisations (UAVYO) consisting 13 villages under 3 Dimapur-III AC has encouraged all its units to maintain peaceful environment on the polling day.

It stated that any individual or group of people or outsiders would not be allowed to disturb the harmony and peaceful co-existence of the area. It cautioned that such perpetrated would be doing so at their own risk.

The organisation has further wished good luck to all the candidates.
