22nd NSF MMT: Lajong FC rout Dzülouzou 11 – 0, PSU beat Phoenix 3 – 1

Shillong Lajong FC, a reputed team of I-League, hammered Dzülouzou FC 11-0 at the ongoing 22nd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy on Tuesday at IG Stadium in Kohima.

Lajong took control of the game from the start even as Dzülouzou players tried their best to prevent the I-League team from scoring against them untill Wadajied brilliantly headed in the first goal of the match in the 27th minute through Sangti’s assist.

After ten minutes, Wadajied doubled the tally while Chanmitre too scored a brace to end the halftime at 4-0 in favour of Lajong.

Chanmitre completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute and netted his fourth goal in the 58th.

The talisman of Lajong found his fifth goal in the 81st minute and sixth goal in the 90th minute to become the second player to score a double hat-trick in the tournament.

A couple of shots-on-target made by a shattered Dzülouzou only landed into the sure hands of Lajong’s custodian Guidle.

Atlan, Everbright Son and Sangti contributed a goal each during the game to seal the victory for the visitors.

Debuting in the competition for the first time, Lajong became the last team to enter the last 16.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror after their match, team manager of Lajong, Milan Nongkhlaw, expressed satisfaction over the performance of his players during the encounter.

He said that they would “continue to fight” as the team faces stronger opponents ahead.

Kelhouneizo Yhome, former ASU president, handed over the man of the match award to Sangti of Lajong.

Earlier, playing the first match of the day, Pochury Students’ Union PSU) edged past Phoenix C&C 3-1.

Although Phoenix took the lead through Yiben in the 19th minute,  PSU restored parity with a goal from Asie in the 33rd minute.

Rhongutho was quick enough to score the leading goal in the 36th and Apokütho netted the third goal for PSU in the 55th minute.

Rocus Rino, finance secretary of Angami Youth Organisation, handed over the man of the match award to PSU’s Apokütho.

PSU will now clash with Lajong in the pre-quarter final round.

2nd pre-quarter final match – Nagaland University Students’ Union KC vs FIFA FC Kohima (1 pm)
