DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Commissioner of Police has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in areas under the Dimapur Municipal Council, and the Chümoukedima, Medziphema, and Niuland town councils. These orders will be in effect for 24 hours, commencing at 6 am on June 29.

This measure, aimed at preventing breaches of the peace and threats to public tranquillity, comes in response to the counting of votes for the urban local body elections held on June 26, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

As per the order issued by the commissioner, activities including processions, rallies or public meetings by any candidate or political parties have been prohibited.

It also prohibits carrying of lethal weapons and firearms in public places including lathis, machete/dao, daggers, sticks, spears, swords, catapult, etc., and carrying of any kind of inflammable objects which could endanger public life and property.

Additionally, busting of crackers and unauthorised use of public address systems or loudspeaker are also prohibited during this period.

Any individual or group found in contravention of the order would be liable for punitive action under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, the CP warned.
