DIMAPUR — The 11th All Sumi Chess Championship 2024, organised by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) got underway at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on Thursday, with Y Vizheto Shohe, CDPO, Dept. of Social Welfare, Zunheboto, as the special guest for the inaugural programme.
In his speech, Shohe said that chess is the only game which contributes to building mental and cognitive development in human beings, an update stated.
Mughaho Awomi, international arbiter, gave the arbiter’s remarks for the championship. The programme was chaired by SCAN general secretary, Mughato K Kiba.
The ongoing championship is in line with the run-up to the 25th anniversary of SCAN, which will be celebrated next year.
Altogether, 35 players are vying for the championship under three categories – open under-4 and under-18.
The youngest player of the championship is year-old Vikito Y Swu, a student of Bethesda Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur.
