Zhavame Youth Society celebrates golden jubilee

Nagaland’s lone Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, KG Kenye, on Tuesday called to revisit the good old cultural and traditional values of the forefathers and propagate among the younger generations to carry forward their legacy.

He was addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Zhavame Youth Society (ZYS) in Zhavame village under Phek district held on the theme “Let the past design the future.”

Kenye hailed ZYS for attaining 50 glorious years stating, “50 years is a long time in human relation and we are fortunate to have come across to celebrate the occasion.” He lauded the pioneers for shouldering the responsibility as guardians of Zhavame in different aspects and working for the welfare and uplift of the community.

Mentioning Zhavame village as one of the strongest pillars among the Chakhesang tribe, he stated that Zhavame village has a major role to play in the socio-political sphere. In this regard, he told the villagers to be peace-makers and ambassadors of the Chakhesang community in particular and the Nagas in general.

Kenye also called upon the people to revisit the good virtues of integrity, honesty and traditional practices and preserve them bestowed by the forefathers saying, “The values of good tradition, characters, strong moral cannot be bought from the market.”

In this regard he called upon the village authority, women and youth societies to embark on imparting the basic human moral values and the rich tradition and culture to the younger generation.

Mentioned may be made here that the ZYS was formed in 1971 to work for the welfare of the youth by also ensuring that they are on the right track by regulating their affairs based on certain set of rules.

On the occasion the MP unveiled the jubilee monolith in presence of former minister Deo Nukhu at the village ground and also released a souvenir.

Meanwhile, Deo Nukhu, chief host of the celebration, also spoke on the occasion while Chakhesang Youth Front president Vezhodüyi Nakro delivered greetings.
