DIMAPUR — President of Jalukie Valley Youth Organisation (JVYO) and PRO to Deputy Chief Minister, Masangum Hiekha, on Wednesday called upon the youth to promote peace through the medium of sports and cultural activities.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a four-day 19th Beisumpuikam Village Cultural-cum-Sports Meet 2023 at Beisumpuikam public ground on the theme “Building peace through sports,” Masangum outlined several factors inhibiting the youth from exploring their optimum potentials. Among several factors, he has pointed out misuse of mobile phones and indulgence in other intoxicants.

Pointing out the merits and demerits of mobile phones, Masangum advised the youth to use the facility responsibly to their advantage.

“Don’t let yourself be driven away by mobile phones. Be master over the facility and used them to your advantage. They are just gadgets to make life easier,” he said.

Additionally, he encouraged the youth to maintain discipline in order to excel in life. Besides, he advised the youth to stay away from indulging in intoxicants.

In his address directed towards the people of Beisumpuikam, Masangum said the village was blessed with rich resources and urged them to conserve and protect them.

Besides reservation of rich natural resources coupled with Ntangki National Park within their jurisdiction, he stated that Beisumpuikam village would soon become a tourist destination.

Meanwhile, Masangum informed that the construction of Astroturf football ground in Jalukie would be completed by January 2024. He has lauded Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for taking keen interest to complete the project at the earliest. He also informed that the 16th edition of JVYO open football tournament would be held coinciding with the inauguration of Astroturf football ground tentatively in the month of February 2024. There are 27 villages and one town under JVOY.

It may be mentioned that a total of 17 teams from 5 blocks of Beisumpuikam village are participating in football and volleyball in both boys and girls categories.

Dance competitions would also be held during the four-day event.
