Youngstars Cricket Club lift Silver Cup 1st super six tournament

KOHIMA — Youngstars Cricket Club (YCC) emerged champions of the Silver Cup first Super Six Tournament organised by Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department (NBCK YD) on the theme ‘Peace and Unity through Cricket.’

In an exciting final match played at Razhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School ground, Kohima, on Saturday, Youngstars CC defeated Fire Balls.

Deciding to field filed after winning the toss, Youngstars CC limited Fire Balls to 61 runs, while comfortably chasing the targeted runs with four wickets in hand to lift the trophy, stated a press release issued by the tournament’s organising committee.

The champions received INR 20,000 with trophy and citation while the runners-up also received INR 10,000 with citation.

The individual awards included highest run (Kaif Ahmed of Youngstars CC with 115 runs), best bowler (Rehan of Fire Balls with 7 wickets in 4 matches), player of the tournament (Rupam of Fire Balls with 104 runs and 2 wickets). They received INR 1000 each along with certificates.

Commissioner and Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Kekhrievor Kevichusa, the chief guest of the valedictory function, gave away the prizes to the winners.

In his address, the chief guest said that super six is a limited overs game where only one batsman can make the difference, while other players may not get the opportunity to exploit their full potential.

Kevichusa encouraged the players to take sports professionally by being disciplined, dedicated and hardworking. 

Altogether, 13 teams participated in the tournament which began on May 2.
