Yingli College organises outreach programme on value of right to vote

DIMAPUR — The Department of Political Science, Yingli College, Longleng, organised an outreach awareness programme on the theme ‘Value of right to vote in the democracy” at Oushok village ground, on March 23.

Council chairman of Oushok village, Chailong Phom, welcomed all the participants and thanked the college authority for organising the programme in the village, an official bulletin stated.

The chairman said that the theme of the programme was very relevant and that it will have significant impact on the village people. He also suggested the students to work hard and increase the level of knowledge to serve the Phom community.

Vice principal of Yingli College, Dr. B Henshet Phom, in his address, thanked the village council members for allowing their public ground for the programme.

He informed the VDB members that Yingli College secured NAAC B+ grade due to many co-curricular activities organised in and around nearby villages of the district.

Dr. Phom also said that though there are some loopholes in Indian democracy, yet it is the best form of government at present. He cited example of Japan where education plays an important role in economic growth of the nation. Further, he urged the eligible voters to be vigilant and to know the value of right to vote.

Expounding on the value and benefit of the outreach programme, Dr. Mahabir Jha, head of Department of Political Science, said that the objective of the programme is to sensitise students to the needs of society and their role in the community, state and nation building.

“This is a kind of exchange programme which involves social planning, awareness about rights and duties, health support, several social welfare projects. The value of right to vote in the democracy is a kind of awareness programme which helps to sensitise the people about their political rights and duties,” Dr. Jha said.

He said that citizens must exercise their franchise to elect right and honest persons who can bring about the development in the society.

Further, he requested all the students to respect each other, create good educational environment in the college and to prepare themselves for community service. 

The programme, chaired by Lemei.L Phom, 6th semester, concluded with a vote of thanks by Chingau Phom.
