Year-long golden jubilee celebration of Don Bosco Kohima begins

Don Bosco Kohima kicked off its year-long golden jubilee celebration on Sunday evening in Kohima village.

Hoisting the school flag as the special guest, Mmhonlumo Kikon, MLA and Advisor for IT and Science and Technology and NRE, urged upon the past pupils of Don Bosco to be “agents of change” in the society.

As a gesture and gratitude to the school, Kikon who is also an alumnus and a member of the 1994 batch, called upon all the alumni to be peacemakers and contribute towards the promotion of development in the state and fight against injustice. “The change that is going to come must impact our society positively,” he reminded.

He also implored upon the gathering to show respect for each other and to spread love by being willing to serve with humility and kindness.

Dr. Zavei Heise (1st batch), while reminiscing about the past, said the school which was instituted in 1971 has produced some of the best students. He continued that over the years, the school has transformed remarkably.

He also shared how the students first appeared Nagaland Board of School Examination (NBSE), rock bands from the school were formed and how students performed plays like “The Merchant of Venice” in Kohima town.

Fr. Kuriakose SDB, fourth principal of Don Bosco, who also spoke on the occasion, reminded the gathering not to be complacent about their achievement but strive for excellence adding that one must “invite criticisms” in order to reach higher endeavours and dreams.

The priest also expressed happiness that the past students have “written successful stories” of the institution by being successful in life.

Earlier, two past pupils each from the batch of 1971 to 2021 unfurled a flag and a lamp each to commemorate the year-long celebration while Neivor Rutsa (1977 batch) lit the jubilee candle. Later, a jubilee commemoration music video album was also launched while golden jubilee sky lanterns were released followed by lighting of bonfire.

Fr. P Suresh SDB, rector and principal, Don Bosco College Kohima and Fr. TP James SDB, principal of Don Bosco Kohima cited various qualities and examples of St. John Bosco popularly known as Don Bosco while extending greetings at the event.

Songs and musical performances from the past and present students marked the eventful night which was streamed live.
