WOKHA — The month-long Poshan Maah 2023 concluded on Saturday at the Lotha Hoho building in Wokha town, with advisor Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan as the guest of honour.

Yanthan said at the event that the Poshan Abhiyan aims to address the widespread issue of malnutrition in the country and expressed regret that millions of children continue to suffer from malnutrition.

He emphasised the alarming statistics of malnutrition and called for collective responsibility to bring about positive change.

He expressed hope that the programme would not only provide adequate nutrition but also raise awareness about the importance of a balanced diet and the role nutrition plays in overall development.

To accomplish this, he urged all stakeholders to work together and share resources, knowledge, and experiences. He urged the Anganwadi workers to spread the word about nutri gardens so that the younger generation could get hands-on experience and exposure.

He bemoaned the fact that Anganwadi centres and infrastructure built in some areas were later occupied by others and are no longer operational.

Delivering the short speech, DC Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, said that malnutrition is not as high in Nagaland as compared to mainland India. However, he said that the state should focus on four major areas—child anaemia, HIV, drug abuse, and hypertension—which it should approach in a holistic manner because there is a high prevalence.

District programme coordinator Shanjothung Ngullie delivered the welcome address, and district welfare officer, Wokha, James Ezung, delivered the keynote address.

Erenbeni Kikon, supervisor, ICDS, Wokha project, provided a brief recap of Poshan Maah activities.

Zubenthung Kikon, CMO Wokha, Dr. BL Mhalo Tungoe, ACTO (agri. extension) KVK, Wokha, and Nzanbemo Patton, block programme manager, BMMU Wokha, NSRLM, also delivered short speeches.

Myanlumo Lotha, CDPO Wokha, presented the awards to the best performing field workers on the occasion.

Later, Yanthan visited the nutri-garden veggie stalls set up by various VLOs and SHGs.

The programme was attended by various VLOs, SHGS, Anganwadi workers, and the medical department, Wokha.

Longleng: The Poshan Maah closing programme was organised on Saturday at the CDPO office premises in Longleng by the department of Social Welfare.

In his keynote address, T Shahnyu Phom, senior supervisor, spoke about Poshan Abhiyaan – National Nutrition Mission, and Poshan Maah 2023, according to a DIPR report.

He lauded Anganwadi workers and helpers for their tireless efforts and said that the Poshan Maah celebration has resulted in a significant improvement in the district. He also encouraged them to bridge the gap between government schemes and their implementation by creating awareness among the masses via ‘jan aandolan’.

On the occasion, L Shamdok Menlei Phom, supervisor, presented awards to the best performing Anganwadi worker, Y Pangchu Phom, Longleng-D, and the best performing Anganwadi helper, M Phengmei Phom, Orangkong-B.

In the cooking competition, Oushak-A won first place, while Dungkhao-A, Bhumnyu-C, and Bhumnyu-E finished second and third.
