SJU team attend G20 University Connect finale in Delhi

DIMAPUR — Assistant professor Dr. Moameren Pongen of the department of Political Science, as well as ten students from St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, attended the G20 University Connect finale on Tuesday at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

A press release mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the programme, highlighting what India accomplished during its G20 presidency.

The event was an initiative by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) to build understanding of India’s G20 presidency among India’s youth and enhance their participation in different G20 events.

St. Joseph University was one of the universities selected as per the initiative to organise a lecture series, which it organised on April 20.

Tuesday’s event was attended by about 3,000 participants, comprising students, faculty members, and vice chancellors of the participating universities. Also, more people from across the country joined the programme virtually.

Organises ‘green fest’

Department of Botany, SJU, held a ‘green fest’ on Wednesday with the theme ‘back to nature in the future’.

According to a press release, Dr. Kinitoli H Yeptho, dean of Academics, addressed the gathering on the importance of knowledge and education on the occasion.

Guest speaker Dr. Lamsunep, deputy director, RCFC-NER, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat, spoke about the community forest model (future model), the plantation of pollution-absorbing trees in Nagaland, and the destruction of natural habitat due to human activities.

He also discussed the biodiversity management committee’s (BMC) role and activities in natural habitat recovery, as well as the benefits of stress-relieving plants.

The event included poster and model display competitions based on the fest theme, as well as solo singing and dance competitions.
