Winter Cricket Challenge: Highlanders retain champions’ title

WOKHA — Highlanders retained their champions’ title after defeating LCYO in the final of the 28th Winter Cricket Challenge played at Wokha town on Sunday.

The event was organised by the Senior Noble Klan under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association, in association with Forest Division, Wokha.

LCYO, who won the toss, opted to bat first and set a target of 103 runs in 20 overs after losing all the wickets. The top scorers were Rendemo (11 runs), Renben Kikon (10), Renjanthung (10), Epithung (15) and Thechamo (13).

Chasing the target, the Highlanders’ first two openers collapsed in quick succession, but the third and fourth batsmen in the form of Asif and Mughavi, scored an unbeaten at 46 and 38 runs, respectively, and went on the lift the trophy.

Asif was adjudged the man of the match for his quick-fire 46 runs and claiming two wickets. He was also adjudged the man of the tournament for his all-round performance with the bat and ball (141 runs and 8 wickets). Mhajan Patton was adjudged the best upcoming cricketer.

The champions walked away with cash prize INR 1lakh sponsored by Nagaland Cricket Association along with trophy and certificates. The runner-up won INR 50,000 along with certificates.
