KOHIMA: Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo on Monday called upon the party workers to respect and uphold the mandate of the people by working for the uplift, empowerment and development of the citizens.

Addressing the consultative meeting of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), 18-Chozuba Assembly Constituency, at Hotel Japfü in Kohima, Khamo called for unity and understanding among the leaders; to work cohesively for the party and the constituency as the electorates have given the mandate to bring change and development.

To fulfil the task, he said the party leaders should not leave everything to the MLA but take it as a shared responsibility and work together to uplift the constituency. He also appealed to the party workers to give their best to the society, living an honest life and imbibe the good virtues and traditions of the ancestors.

He went on to laud the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, saying that the NDPP could penetrate into the grassroots in the state under his guidance, because of which the party is well accepted by the people today.

Stressing on the need to encourage entrepreneurship for youth empowerment, he said young people should venture into business.

Maintaining that Nagaland is blessed with fertile soil, ideal for agricultural and horticulture, he also urged the people to take up farming in order to boost rural economy and enhance income for a sustainable future.

Khamo reminded the gathering that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) had repealed the controversial Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA), 2001, as it contravenes the Article 371 (A). He added that the government is working on interpreting the modalities and applications of Article 371 (A).

Also speaking at the event, NDPP working president Nuzota Swuro, said that the incumbent satte government led by the party led is, in all seriousness, working for early resolution of the protracted Naga political issue, implementation of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and others. He sought the support of the party workers to accomplish these issues besides strengthening the party in the state.

NDPP leaders of 18-Chozuba A/C like Thepukhruo Ringa, Melohi Kezo, and Vepozoyi Theyo also spoke at the event chaired by Vevohu Epao, president of NDPP in the constituency.
