Unity Cup T-20 Cricket tournament kicks off in Nagaland

Officials during the opening ceremony of the 9th Unity Cup T-20 Cricket tournament at Chümoukedima local ground on Saturday.

DIMAPUR — The 9th Unity Cup T-20 Cricket tournament, organised by Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Youth Sports Ministry, kicked off at Chümoukedima local ground on Saturday on the theme “Solidarity for peace”.

Addressing the opening ceremony, special guest Sazo Kire, Pastor of Town Baptist Church Chümoukedima, told the gathering that sportspersons play a crucial role in fostering unity as there are no boundaries for them.

He also called upon the Nepali Church of Chümoukedima Town to uphold the theme of the event, according to an update received here on Saturday.

Cornelius Gurung, Manager Accounts, Food Corporation of India Regional Office Dimapur, was the guest of honor for the event.

In the opening match, defending champions Bokajam Warriors CC beat Knock Out CC by 119 runs, with Dipen Sakariya’s contribution of 63 runs helped the team put up 175 runs on the board in 20 overs.

Knock Out CC succumbed to pressure, as they were bowled out for just 55 runs in 11 overs.

Sakariya of Bokajam Warriors CC was adjudged the Man of the Match for his knock of 63 runs.

It may be mentioned that a total of 28 teams have for the 9th edition of Unity Cup, which is being held from January 6 to the 19th.
