Ranji Trophy: Hyderabad humble Nagaland with big win

DIMAPUR — Nagaland were bundled out on day two of the Ranji Trophy 2023-2024, as Hyderabad bowlers tore apart its batting line up with Tanay Thyagarajan picking up 5 wickets in 17 overs, 2 wickets apiece by CV Milind and Kartikeya Kak, while T Ravi Teja took a wicket.

Trailing by 439 runs on day two of the Ranji Trophy played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Nagaland had a forgetful 1st innings, scoring only 153 runs for loss of all wickets in 51.3 overs. Jaganath Sinivas put up a spirited fight with a score 49 runs in 79 balls (not out), while Sumit Kumar (wk) scored 29 from 35 balls and Joshua Ozukum 27 from 41 balls but the skillful bowling display of the opponent after lunch forced Nagaland to follow-on, as they were trailing by 321 runs.

Put to bat first after losing the toss on Friday, Hyderabad declared their first innings at 474 runs for loss of 5 wickets in 76.4 overs, with G Rahul Singh scoring a double century (214 runs) and Tilak Varma(C)  scoring a century (100 runs).

An update from Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) informed that Nagaland collapsed again in the 2nd innings, as they were bowled out for just 127 runs in 34.5 overs. Sumit Kumar was the only notable run getter for Nagaland with a score of 62 runs, while Jonathan Rongsen scored 23 runs.

Hyderabad’s bowlers once again put up a brilliant performance with CV Milind taking 4 wickets and Tanay Thyagarajan 3 wickets.

Hyderabad convincingly won the match by an innings and 194 runs.

Nagaland will next play Mizoram in Gujarat from January 12 to 15th.
