Students told to embrace changing dynamics

KOHIMA — Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and chairman of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA), Nüzota Swüro, on Tuesday called upon the students to embrace the changing dynamics by being rooted to one’s history in order to move ahead with the rest of the world.

He stated this during the silver jubilee celebration of Kohima Tsüswüzu Students’ Union (KTSU) at the State Academy Hall in Kohima. Reminding the evolving changes and development with historical events such as technological advancement, socio-political changes and cultural shift with behavioural and perspective, he stressed on the importance of bridging generation gaps.

He said that evolution in the form of information technology and artificial intelligence have become a way of life for the present generation and made human life easy.

The chairman stated that with the advent of Christianity, Nagas have severed old practices which are abhorrent to the society but upheld virtues such as integrity, truthfulness, honesty. Reminding that Naga ancestors led a self-reliant life, he exhorted the young generation to be proud of their history.

He also added that Christianity brought education, which made huge impact in the life of the Nagas with its teachings to lead a life of righteousness. However, he viewed that along with Christianity, it brought about colonialism, which left an impact of superiority and dominance over other cultures thereby making the Naga society to feel ashamed to wear their own traditional dresses.

On the Naga national movement, which began with a cause to voice out the political rights and preserve the uniqueness of the Nagas, he lamented to note the present scenario that has given rise to factionalism among the Naga political groups causing many unwanted situations of killings and threats.

While expressing concern about the prospect of future generation if the present continues, he urged the students to embrace the changing dynamics while being rooted to one’s history in to move ahead with the rest of the world.

Azinu Swüro, principal of GHSS, Jotsoma Phezhu, delivered greetings and paid tribute to the pioneers. She challenged the students to look forward in the fear of God, be hard working, have a target and be consistent in their endeavours.

She also advised the students to be disciplined, polite, punctual, and respect elders and parents to be successful in life.
