Students advised to make judicious use of time
KOHIMA — Expounding on the value of time, the director of Postal Services, Ministry of Communication, Dr. Alice K Vizo, on Saturday called upon the students to make judicious use of their time in order to excel in life instead of wasting in futile activities by indulging on social media.
Speaking at the 30th Spero Meliora as the special guest held at Kohima Village Council (KVC) hall, an annual literary festival organised by the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) and Dolphin Club, Kohima, Dr. Vizo advised the students to keep their mind open, increase their capabilities, skills and challenged themselves to scale greater heights.
Underscoring the value of time, she called upon the parents and students not to fritter away their time in futile activities particularly on social media saying, that time cannot be recycled.
Mentioning that the future would depend on what they invest during students’ life, she urged them to reflect on how they spend their time. She also asked the students to enjoy the subjects they study and set target that are realistic.
Asserting that it does not take a day but months and years to get success, Dr. Vizo asked the students to assess themselves not to leave things for the last moment, which might become too late.
She also advised the students not to be comfortable but strive for the best and remain focused and not give up easily.
She further asked the parents to invest on their children ‘to let them be assets themselves rather than creating assets for children.’
Delivering the welcome address, Vilalhou Sorhie, KVSU president, informed that competition in 13 events are being organised in this year’s edition for the first time including spelling bee in Tenyidie.
He informed that Spero Meliora started in 1992 by Dolphin Club and subsequently organised jointly by the Dolphin Club and KVSU in 2015, which has now has become an annual event for the student community.
The guest of honour of the valedictory function, Neidilhou Keditsu, director of Economics and Statistics, commended the efforts of the organisers to promote the talents of the students. He exuded hope that it would continue to be a torch bearer in moulding the students to become responsible citizens.
Keditsu also asserted the need of mindful living and emphasised the need to focus for positive living.
Kethonuo Sekhose, winner of Solo singing competition, presented a song, while the students of Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School (KDHSS) presented a choral piece.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vikepelie Dzüvichü, vice president of Dolphin Club.
Competitions were held among Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU), Tsütuonuomia Students’ Union (TSU), Dapfütsumia Students’ Union (DSU) and Pfuchatsumia Students’ Union (PSU).

essay writing in English), essay writing in Tenyidie, painting, sketching, elocution, extempore speech, quiz, spelling bee in English and spelling bee in Tenyidie).
