KOHIMA — The Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025–26 state-level felicitation programme was held on Tuesday at the Morung Conference Hall, Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Kohima.
The event was organised in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland.
Mhathung Tungoe, Secretary of Department of School Education and SCERT, attended the event as the special guest.
In his address, the Secretary congratulated the twenty winners from the state and the five schools that were nominated for the national level.

Tungoe highlighted that SHVR 2025–26 was launched on July 29, 2025, by the Union Education minister on the occasion of the celebration of the fifth year of NEP 2020 at Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
He stated that the SHVR initiative is a revitalised, expanded and universal version of the earlier Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP), adding that this initiative promotes behavioural transformation, environmental sustainability and climate resilience in school education through structured institutional parameters aligned with NEP 2020 and India’s vision for a clean, green and inclusive school environment.
Asserting that SHVR 2025–26 is designed as a mandatory programme for all schools having a UDISE code across the country, he said it includes government, government-aided, private, residential, tribal, minority, centrally run schools (e.g., KVs, NVs) and CBSE-affiliated schools.
Tungoe added that the programme empowers schools to self-assess and improve across six key categories—water, toilets, handwashing with soap, operation and maintenance, behaviour change and capacity building, and Mission LiFE activities (or Eco Clubs).
He informed that schools participated in SHVR from August 4 to September 30, 2025, using either the mobile app or the web portal as per their convenience, wherein 2,553 schools (government, government-aided, private, residential, tribal, minority, centrally run schools such as KVs and NVs, and CBSE-affiliated schools) participated.
He said that out of the total 2,553 schools, 51 schools qualified for the district level, 20 schools qualified for the state-level out of which five schools were nominated for the national level.
Shashank Pratap Singh, Principal Director, DoSE, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the criteria for participation by the schools, where assessment has been done on the six key categories.
He emphasised that these activities are crucial for the overall learning and health aspects of school children, adding that cleanliness is next to godliness and prevention is better than cure.
He also informed that there are many schemes and programmes that the School Education department collaborates on with the Health department, citing mandatory health check-ups and distribution of iron tablets and other medication programmes. He further stated that SHVR is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030.
Singh also emphasised the need to inculcate sustainable objectives—the importance of cleanliness and hygiene at the family level—which in turn will be of great service and contribute to a future-ready society in line with a developed India by 2047.
The programme was led by Khriesano Nagi, Joint Director.
