State Level Catch Them Young (U-14) Sepaktakraw Tournament culminates

KOHIMA — Mon and Dimapur districts clinched the gold medals in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively, during the 16th edition of the State Level Catch Them Young (U-14) Sepaktakraw Tournament 2024.

The tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) in Kohima.

Following Mon, Dimapur district was awarded silver, and Mokokchung district won bronze in the boys’ category. Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, Dimapur won gold, Kohima took silver, and Wokha district won bronze.

During the closing ceremony, commissioner and secretary to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Kesonyü Yhome, attended as the guest of honour. In his speech, he mentioned the significant strides made in the Sepaktakraw discipline in the state, highlighting that the players have excelled not only at the national level but also represented the national team on the international stage and lauded those who brought laurels to the state.

He also commended the efforts made by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, coaches, and all supporting staff, while hailing the players for their discipline and dedication.

Yhome exhorted the young players to maintain self-discipline both on and off the court, emphasising the importance of adhering to the rules of the game, which also apply to life. He urged the department to identify and nurture young talent from an early age to help them excel.

Furthermore, Yhome reiterated the state government’s commitment to the development and upliftment of sports.

Fifteen districts, excluding Kiphire, participated in this tournament, with over 300 athletes.
