State handloom expo underway in Zunheboto
KOHIMA — A state handloom expo billed as ‘Hathkargha Mela’ under Aatmnirbhar Bharat Utsav got underway in Zunheboto on March 10.
Inaugurating the expo at Zunheboto Cultural Hall, Keyirangding Hegui, additional deputy commissioner of Zunheboto and the special guest, said that the main objective of the expo was to provide a platform to the weavers and artisans to exhibit and sell their products. He urged the weavers and artisans to maintain the originality of ‘our rich culture and traditional.’
Hegui also encouraged them to work with skill and produce more products by availing the opportunity offered under Aatmnirbhar Bharat Utsav by the central government.
Highlighting the objective of the expo, managing director of Nagaland Apex Weavers and Artisans Cooperative Federation (WEAFED), Gwaruno Khing, said the expo was intended to give opportunity to the rural weavers and artisans to expose their products and also promote marketing channel and enhance their skills and techniques in sales and marketing.
The state handloom expo is being sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handloom, Government of India, New Delhi, and organised by WEAFED.
Altogether, 60 stalls have been set up at the ongoing expo with 60 participants from Assam, Manipur and host state Nagaland.
The 14-day long Expo will culminate on March 23.
