St Joseph Viswema and St John Mon win girls’ and boys’ titles at the State Level Catch Them Young U-14 Sepaktakraw Championship
KOHIMA — St Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Viswema, and St John Hr. Sec. School, Mon, emerged champions in the girls’ and boys’ categories respectively at the State Level Catch Them Young Under-14 Sepaktakraw Championship held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
In the girls’ category, St Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Viswema, comprising Puanglu Riamei, Ganriumei Amelia Gonmei, Kungpuilu Kamei and Gaikungna Kamei, clinched the title.
Mungleu Valley School, Peren, comprising Nancy, Aanen Thomsong, Hoicy Sitlhou, Peteneinuo and Neihoijem, finished second, while St Mary High School, Mon, comprising Wanjai, Yanon S Salim, Ngeplem K Konyak, Lihnyu Susanna H and Eyan N Konyak, finished third.
In the boys’ category, St John Hr. Sec. School, Mon, comprising P Mommei Konyak, Mopa M, Yinnyei Manlem, Hongkam C Konyak and Kamnyi E Konyak, emerged champions.
Green Valley School, Mon, comprising Wangba E, Sangti P, Moba B Konyak, L Nyangwang and Wangba K Konyak, finished second, while Bethel Baptist Hr. Sec. School, Niuland, comprising Bumoi L, Buli, Tumong, Tsurito Khiphur and Kumughapu Zhimo, finished third.
Sangti P of Green Valley School, Mon, and Puanglu Riamei of St Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Viswema, were adjudged the best players in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.
Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports department, Anthony Ngullie, attended the closing ceremony as the special guest, while All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) president Bithungo Kikon was the guest of honour.s
Addressing the participants, Ngullie congratulated the winners and encouraged the players to continue training and taking part in tournaments.
He said around 78 schools had participated at the district level this year, with 27 teams qualifying for the state-level finals. The growing participation, he said, was an encouragement for the department of Youth Resources & Sports and showed that sepaktakraw was gaining ground in the state.
