Kohima, July 25 (EMN): The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) on Monday initiated a road repairing drive along NH-02 stretch between Phesama-Khuzama villages.

Speaking to journalists, SAYO president, Metekhrielie Mejura said the organisation initiated the goodwill voluntary works as students and commuters alike are experiencing hardships in attending classes and offices.

He said the work was initiated with the hope to ease the commuters and also informed that the SAYO has engaged four trucks and four excavators, which were contributed by SAYO officials.

“There is time for pressuring, criticising the contractors and others, infact at this time of need we have to extend help, services and support to the company- The Fortune Group and the NHIDCL,” Mejura said.

Mejura said SAYO is much concerned about the road as the National Highway (NH-02) is also a historic road as witnessed during the Second World War. Besides, visitors and tourists, both domestic and international, ply the road when they come to visit the Dzukou valley.

He informed that due to incessant rain leading to mudslides and blockage of drainages, the condition of the road stretch from Phesama Check Gate till Khuzama covering approximately 26 km, has been deteriorating daily, which has compelled SAYO to undertake repair works.

Meanwhile, SDO Civil Jakhama, Ruopfukuotuo, who also visited the site appreciated the initiative of the SAYO and said that road is a concern for everyone. The SDO also said SAYO is expressing their concern in a positive way and further sought SAYO’s cooperation and participation in days to come so that the road construction in the stretch could be carried out without any hindrances.

Ruopfukuotuo also said the district administration from its end was pressing NHIDCL as well as the Fortune Group to expedite the works. “The progress is not satisfactory, but from time to time the administration is carrying out its inspection and doing everything we can so as to ensure that the work is completed in stipulated time,” the official said.

On its part, SAYO also requested the contractors and the authority within stretch to carry out the work even as SAYO said it is expecting the “best quality and timely completion.”

The youth body also assured that once the construction starts, then it would extend all possible assistance.
