Rusoma village in Kohima district, collaboration with the department of Horticulture, Agriculture, Rural Development, Land Resources and Smart City, will host the third annual orange festival on January 24 and 25. Rusoma village is about 7 km from BSF Camp in Kohima.

This was informed by the spokesperson of the festival, Kekhrie Pfukha, during a press conference held at Vivid Lounge in Kohima on Sunday.

He said Rusoma is a legendary village known for the legend of Sopfünuo, whose story is much alive in oral narrative even to this day. Pfukha informed that the total area of orange cultivation in the village is 70 hectare involving an approximate 50 farmers. He added that an annual income generated from orange cultivation was INR 4,070800. He has anticipated income of over INR 3 crore this year.

Pfukha informed that there would be competition among the farmers for the biggest orange, sweetest orange. He added that there would night concert featuring various artistes on January 24 evening.

The orange festival would be officially inaugurated on January 24 at 10 am with the additional director of Rural Development, K Neibou Sekhose, as the festival father.

It informed that the organic oranges would cost INR 110 per kg. Orange saplings would also be available at the rate of INR 75 and INR 80 per sapling.
