Kohima, Jan. 6 (EMN): The government of Nagaland has appointed Rupin Sharma, a 1992-batch IPS officer of Nagaland cadre, as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.
It came days after T John Longkumer put in his papers amid controversy around the extension of his tenure as the DGP for six more months and the subsequent intervention of the Supreme Court on the matter.
Through a notification on January 6, the Home department informed that the Governor of Nagaland has allowed Sharma, the incumbent Director General of Prisons, Home Guards & Civil Defense and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to hold the charge of DGP.
He has been assigned the charge in ‘addition to his normal duties with effect from January 7, 2023 till further orders’.
It may be mentioned that Sharma had earlier held the post of Nagaland DGP for a brief period after his appointment in November 2017 but was removed within seven months.
Meanwhile, a farewell parade for the outgoing DGP Longkumer is scheduled to be held at NAPTC Chumoukedima on Saturday.
The 1991-batch IPS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre had been hold the post of DGP since June 27, 2018, after he was deputed to the state on administrative grounds following the approval of his inter-cadre deputation for three years but was extended twice.
