KOHIMA— Joining the rest of the country, the state Janbhagidari events or people’s participation was launched at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Park in Kohima on Thursday.

Addressing the launching event, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, said that India as the president of G20, an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU), launched ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’

He asserted that climate change is for real and that the United Nations Framework for Climate Change is concerned about the health of the earth as its temperature has increased rapidly over the years.

He said every increase in temperature is killing the insects and micro-organisms, resulting in ice-melting at both the poles (north and south poles), which is changing the world at various levels.

The rise in consumers and accompanying trash is also contributing to climate change and emergence of new zoonotic diseases, he said.

The advisor also asked students to let everyday be a “responsible day” and make the world a better place with their contributions towards the environment.

Commissioner and Secretary of School Education, SCERT and VC NEMS, Kevileno Angami, in her opening remark, said the event was part of the prelude to the G20’s Education Working Group event to be held in Pune in mid-June.

Updating pdated that the event in Pune will be held on the themes: Foundation literacy and numeracy (FLN), Nipun Bharat, Digital Initiative, and the National Educational Policy 2020, Kevileno said various programmes are being organised across the country in this regard.

Nagaland is also organising various programmes at the state-level from June 1 to the 15th, she informed.

She said that programmes such as tree plantation in collaboration with NGOs, civil society, social media activities and radio station, are being conducted to create environmental awareness; that foundational literacy would enable children to “learn to read” and “read to learn” based on a blended learning approach.

Deputy Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Kelhika Kenye, informed that Janbhagidari event is basically to create awareness; highlight the FLN policy, a recommendation in the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020; encourage primary school students’ ability to read basic literacy texts; and solve basic numeracy problems.

With the launch of the state-level events, he said various activities such as literary, singing and painting competitions, which will involve parents, community leaders and all the stakeholders, will also be held at district, block and school levels.

Kenye informed that plogging was conducted to instill a sense of responsible disposal of waste in Kohima.

Earlier in the day, plogging was conducted by students, teachers and state officials at High School Junction, NLA gate near NPSC and TMGHSS Kohima till Nagaland Civil Secretariat.
