Describing India as a welfare state, which implements various intervention programmes for reaching out to the grassroots, the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Chiephobozou, Vekhoyi Chakhesang, urged the people participate to get maximum benefit from the people’s Central programmes.

He stated this during the first annual general body meeting of Chiephobozou Block Level Federation (CBLF)-cum-celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav held at Thizama village council hall under Kohima district on Thursday.

The officer maintained that the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at the country level and the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) at the state level are working in convergence with various agencies to empower the rural people. The main objective of the mission was to create self help groups (SHG) in every village, mobilise and also form block level federation and to help and give opportunities to the members.

While pointing out the crucial role of block level federation (BLF), he urged the members to work efficiently as it linked with various departments and agencies in order to help the SHG. He exhorted the SHG members not to be selfish but have concern for the welfare of the group and collectively work as one and get maximum benefit.

Besides, he also exhorted the participants not to compromise with the quality of their products but think about its marketability.

On the occasion of celebrating India’s 75 years of independence, he told the people to retrospect and introspect so as to progress further. He also called upon the people to come forward for Covid vaccination.

An official from State Mission Management Unit (SMMU) highlighted about the mission of National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and implored upon the members to cohesively work to avail those facilities.

In his keynote address, Seyiekhrielie Rio, BDO cum BMM RD of Chiephobozou, highlighted the significance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He informed that the NSRLM- VLO started back in 2017 and added that there are 244 SHG in 19 villages and 22 village level organisations (VLO) at present.

He also informed that 1994 households are involved under the mission with one SHG of physically handicapped, five elderly SHG and over INR 2.65 crores have been utilised in the block.

The welcome address was delivered by Vizhadenuo Chadi, president of CBLF, while a song was presented by Arhenuo Pienyü, reports were presented by secretary, treasurer and BPM of start-up village entrepreneurship programme (SVEP) and exhortation was also delivered by Viletuo Pienyü, chairman of Thizama village council.

Best VLO and CC awards

On the occasion, Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU) Chiephobozou also awarded the best village level organisations (VLO) to Khriesa VLO Nerhe Model, and community cadres under Chiephobozou were awarded to Lhousituonuo Zuye of Khrietho VLO Rusoma and Khrievonuo Üsou of Khriesa VLO Nerhe Model.
