Pre-Subroto-cum-Junior Football Tournament: Girls U-17 matches begin

KOHIMA — In the ongoing state-level Pre-Subroto-cum-Junior Football Tournament in Kohima, the matches for girls U-17 commenced on Saturday. Kohima leads the tally with a score of +12, followed by Chümoukedima with +8 overall.

The sporting event, organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), is taking place at Indira Gandhi Stadium.

In Saturday’s opening match, Kohima triumphed over Phek with a 7-0 victory. Peteneinuo Khoubve secured a hat-trick, finding the net in the 9th, 30th, and 60th minutes. Zangyoa Konyak contributed two goals in the 13th and 25th minutes. Rokothonuo and Nounevinuo each added a goal, scoring in the 21st and 59th minutes, respectively.

In the second match, Chümoukedima dominated their opponent, securing an impressive 8-0 victory. Chonghoilhing Guited led the charge with five goals, commencing in the 2nd minute and adding to the tally in the 10th, 12th, 21st, 33rd, and 37th minutes. Nengchinghoi Kongsai chipped in with goals in the 24th and 52nd minutes.

In the third match, Noklak secured a 2-0 victory over Dimapur, with goals from Phaam S and Lamnyu P in the 32nd and 52nd minutes, respectively. The fourth match concluded in a goalless draw between Mokokchung and Zunheboto.

In the day’s final match, Kohima secured a convincing 5-0 victory over Wokha. Mhalo B Mozhui initiated the scoring in the 4th minute, with further goals from Rokothono Thami in the 15th and 46th minutes, and contributions from Leye L and Khuloi P in the 20th and 24th minutes, respectively.

On Monday, Phek will face Wokha at 7 am, and Dimapur will face Noklak at 8:30 am. Later in the day, Chümoukedima will face Peren at 12:30 pm, and Mokokchung will play against Zunheboto at 2 pm.

Meanwhile, the semi-final matches for boys U-15 are scheduled to begin on Monday, June 10.
