Zunheboto launches Poshan Maah 2026, with Dharam Raj stressing sustained nutrition efforts, departmental convergence and community participation to combat malnutrition.
DIMAPUR — The district convergence meeting-cum-inauguration of Poshan Maah 2026 was held in Zunheboto on Monday, marking the formal launch of Poshan Maah activities in the district.
District Coordinator, Poshan Abhiyan, Zunheboto, Mughalu Awomi, chaired the programme, which saw active participation from various departments and stakeholders, a DIPR report stated.
District Programme Officer, Zunheboto, R Imtinukshi, spoke on the significance of Poshan Maah 2026, while Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, delivered the special address.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy commissioner underscored the critical importance of nutrition under Poshan Abhiyan, stating that the health of mothers and children forms the foundation of a healthy future.
Raj noted that although some children may appear visibly healthy, Poshan Maah provides a systematic platform to track and monitor their nutritional status, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Highlighting national concerns, he observed that India’s Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), though steadily declining over the years, remains high compared to developed nations.
He stressed that nutrition is not a one-time intervention but a continuous process requiring sustained efforts throughout the year, rather than being limited to a single month.
The deputy commissioner called for genuine convergence among departments and greater participation from multiple villages to strengthen the programme.
He also highlighted the vital role of mothers’ and youth organisations in promoting community-level awareness and action.
Raj stated that taking the Poshan Pledge reinforces the collective commitment towards building a healthier generation.
The programme concluded with all participants taking the Poshan Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to combating malnutrition and securing a healthier future for the children of Zunheboto.
