Kohima, Dec. 10 (EMN): Director General of Police (DGP), T John Longkumer, called upon the police officers in the state to harness the advantages provided by the modern technology for effective policing in order to ensure security to its citizens.

He stated this during the Nagaland Police Hackathon 2021 held in the PHQ conference hall in Kohima on Friday. He said ensuring security and justice to the citizens of Nagaland should be a constant challenge for Nagaland police. He stated that policing initially was for investigation of crimes but later it was extended to prevention and prediction of crimes.

“Today, the challenge is compounded by the technological development of our society. As we all know that the present society is driven by technology,” Longkumer said.

While pointing out that technology is being used by criminals for their nefarious activities, he added that criminals keep evolving in sync with technology. IN this regard, he suggested that police should evolve along with the advancement of technology.

Stating that Nagaland police understand the nuances of technology and science in future crime reporting be it investigation, preventive or predictive, he has stressed on the need to incorporate artificial intelligence into technical areas.
