Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to be visiting Nagaland later this month, just weeks before the state Assembly election 2023, which is expected to be held in the last week of February or first week of March as the tenure of the 13th NLA will expire on March 12.

A reliable source told Eastern Mirror that the prime minister is likely to visit the state on January 20 and that further details of the itinerary are awaited.

The upcoming state Assembly election is mired in uncertainty with some organisations demanding solution to the Naga political issue before the election, a similar scenario that was witnessed in 2018 but was defused by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with its slogan ‘Election for solution’.

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has also declared that the region won’t participate in any electoral process of the Centre or the state until their demand for a separate state is fulfilled. So, the people will expect the prime minister to speak on these pressing issues if he visits the state.

It may be mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated several projects during his visit to the state last week but was tight-lipped on the pressing issues including the Indo-Naga political issue and the ENPO’s demand for Frontier Nagaland.
