Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): A petition has been filed before the Kohima bench of Gauhati High Court, to take suo motu cognisance of the ‘hate speech targeting Nagas’ made by one Hema Chowdhary, a resident of Mumbai, on social networking sites.

The petitioners, Kuholy Chishi and Moa Longkumer, have appealed to the court to take cognisance of the ‘offence punishable under the Information and Technology Act, 2008 and the Indian Penal Code, 1860’.

According to Chishi, they have decided to petition the court “since the police are not responding or taking action on the earlier FIR lodged” against Chowdhary.

“If there is no response or action from the High Court, we will organise a protest outside the Parliament. We cannot let the issue die down,” she said, adding that a group of Nagas has filed another FIR in Delhi.

The petitioners have urged the court to direct the appropriate authorities to register FIR against the perpetrators and initiate investigation at the earliest.

“An email has already been sent to the Kohima superintendent of police and Nagaland DGP on July 5 but no action has been taken, nor have we received any reply from the police authority,” they stated.
