Dimapur, July 5 (EMN): Alleging hate speech and derogatory remarks used against people from the Northeast, a group of people has filed two separate first information reports (FIRs) against one person identified as Hema Chowdhary.
The FIRs were filed in Delhi and Kohima by one Kuholy Chishi and others.
Chishi, when contacted by this newspaper, confirmed that FIRs have been filed in Delhi and Kohima respectively. Also, she said others have filed FIR in Mumbai as well.
In a complaint lodge against Chowdhary for “online and social media related crime, provocative speech for unlawful acts”, the complainant(s) alleged that Chowdhary, founder and managing director at Bezubaan Public Welfare Trust, had neither denied nor apologised for the comments she made on a number of videos specifically targeting the people of Northeast, and Nagaland precisely.
“She has encouraged stereotyping of people from the Northeast which will definitely further damage the relationship Northeast people have with mainland India. She has used the term chinki and other derogatory remarks which is an offence as instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act”, read the complaint.
The FIR has been lodged under Section 153-A, 153-B, 505 (1) and (2) of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
