Ozukum calls for more dedication, sincerity from doctors

Kohima, July 1 (EMN): Minister for Public Works Department (Housing and Mechanical), Tongpang Ozükum on Friday said doctors have been vested with the responsibility of people’s lives on their shoulders and asked them to be more dedicated and sincere in their service.
Ozukum also commended the service of the doctors who went beyond the call of duty to give humane treatment to mankind selflessly after the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Your services are recognised and acknowledged”, he said and urged the doctors and health workers to continue to give their best.
He was addressing the National Doctor’s Day celebration and award ceremony for the best performing doctors under AB-PMJAY,
It was organised by the state health agency (Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY) department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland Kohima at the Directorate’s entrance hall.
Pointing out that the Government had introduced many schemes for the people like PM-JAY, he stated that it should benefit the targeted people and none should be left out, and towards this he called upon the department to give proper sensitisation to the people about the scheme, it packages and what are covered so that the people can benefit out of it while he also urged the department to do a comprehensive survey at the same time.
Recalling the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme which was announced earlier this year during the budget session by the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Ozukum commented that the scheme is a forward step for the people of Nagaland in creating a robust health system in the state. While he also maintained that there is drastic change in infrastructure he calls for effort to bring at par with the rest of the country in health care system.
INR 34 crore worth of free treatment under PM-JAY
Meanwhile, Asangla Imti, secretary to the government of Nagaland, Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland informed that INR 34 crore worth of free treatment has been availed by the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) scheme in the state.
Spekaing about the PM-JAY scheme launched in September 2018, she said it is an initiative of the government of India to provide free hospitalisation coverage upto INR 5 lakh to households per year through the network of public and private hospitals. It covers 2.33 lakh households in the state based one socio-economic and caste census 2011.
She also urged the medical professionals to wear the white coat with dignity, pride and with humility, while also stating that it is an honour and privilege to serve the people as a physician.
“Know that only a doctor is blessed with the quality and ability to treat an illness, to bring health to one’s life and to be the hope when all hopes are lost”, she said.
Imti also said this year, under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate the 75 years of India’s independence, the national health authority proposed that the best performing doctors under AB-PMJAY would be given recognition on National Doctors Day. Accordingly, the state health agency shortlisted the hospitals that are performing well and subsequently nominations were made for the award.
Dr. Joyce Angami highlighted the significance of the day, stating that the first National Doctors Day was observed on July 1, 1991 in honour of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy to pay tribute to his contributions particularly in the health domain.
She asserted that doctors as frontliners have and are still working tirelessly to ensure the safety of patients, putting their own life at risk at the face of the pandemic, working around the clock while many a times, missing out on their own personal breaks and family events.
According to Angami, the role of doctors has become ever more demanding over the past two years ever since the outbreak of the pandemic. She told the people that the medical professionals deserve to be respected and treated with kindness.
Earlier, greetings was delivered by Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, while a special number was presented by Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu, Acting MS, State Mental Health Institute.

The minister handed over the award to the awardees in the presence of Advisor for Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhanthung Yanthan and Advisor S Keoshu Yimchunger, Village Guard and Information and Public Relations; and other senior department officials.
Doctors visit old age home in Mon
Meanwhile, marking National Doctor’s Day, District Health Society Mon visited a senior citizen’s old age home under John 3:16 Society, Mon on Friday. The team was led by Dr. Lolekhol Pucho DVBO, Dr. Wungyong, MD DH, Dr. Peter Konyak MO DH, Dr. Elizabeth MO MHT and Dr. Kainyu MO AyushDH along with nurses.The doctors gave free health check up, medicines and some food items to all the senior citizens of the old age home.
Dr. Lolekhol Pucho also thanked and encouraged the initiative taken up by Hamkai Arolim, the Director of John 3:16 Society. An update stated that Arolim also introduced his staff and briefed the gathering about the initial period of starting the ministry. He also thanked all the well-wishers who have donated to the Home in kind or cash, and the Health department for always being there when needed.
