Kohima, June 21 (EMN):
Much to the relief of the people of Phek district, the installation work of the oxygen generation plant at District Hospital Phek has been completed and is set for inauguration.

Sources from the hospital informed Eastern Mirror that the oxygen plant, which is supported and sponsored by Japan through the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP),  will be inaugurated on Wednesday, June 23.

It was informed that the oxygen plant setting up was completed last week and manifold pipeline had also been fitted to all the wards with 50 points.

Out of 50 points, 35 points were stated to have been fitted in the general ward and rest in Covid ward, the source said, adding that, “We have to look beyond Covid-19”.

The oxygen plant has a capacity of 150 Litre Per Minute (LPM), which mean it can generate oxygen up to 2.16 lakh litre in a day.

The purity of oxygen generation from the plant can be detected from the plant itself unlike other plants that are already functional in the state, said the source, adding that it showed 94% purity.

The equipment was said to be imported from Germany and France.

Prior to this, prefilled oxygen cylinders were brought in from Dimapur and Kohima for use at the health centre, which required lot of manpower, time and resources.

The source said that the oxygen plant will immensely help the people in the remote places.

Inaugural programme

It was informed that the oxygen plant at District Hospital Phek and similar other facilities in the state that are already functional, will be formally inaugurated jointly by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Embassy of Japan to India and UNDP, on Wednesday.

While Rio will deliver the inaugural address at the site, UNDP Resident Representative in India Shoko Noda will give an overview of the UNDP Covid-19 response and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to India, Satoshi Suzuki will also speak at the event virtually.

Meanwhile, another source informed that the chief minister will inaugurated the oxygen generation plant at Tuensang on Tuesday in the presence of other officials.
