One minor allegedly raped in Kohima; cops arrest accused

Kohima, April 18 (EMN): The Kohima police on Monday detained one person for allegedly raping a minor girl on Sunday night.
According to the first information report (FIR) filed by the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) on the incident, the accused one Yankiuba Yimchunger, a resident of Chandmari colony in Kohima, had lured the 12-year-old victim along with her 8-year-old brother on the pretext of buying them candies.
The siblings were abducted at around 5:30 pm on Sunday, and later around 10:30 pm, the minor girl was taken away and allegedly raped by the accused, who is in his early 30s and a native of Chessore village in Tuensang district.
Kohima Police also confirmed to Eastern Mirror that a case had been registered and the accused taken into custody. It added the medical examinations had been conducted, however, the result was still awaited till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the CSU also condemned the heinous crime perpetrated to the minor, saying that barbaric act had creating fear psychosis. It appealed to the law enforcing agency to ‘investigate the matter, expedite the case proceedings and give a befitting punishment to the accused without any delay’.
“The perpetrator deserves non-negotiable punishment as per the law of the land,” the union stated. It also expressed solidarity and sympathy with the victims and their family.
