Kohima, Oct. 28 (EMN): Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic resources, Evaluation and Economic and Statistics, L Khumo told the officers of the department ‘to work smart, be sincere and be regular to office’, as it is the nodal agency for developing an efficient statistical system in the state.

He was addressing the inaugural programme of the directorate of Economics and Statistics workshop on statistical activities of various departments under support for statistical strengthening 2021-2022 at the Directorate’s Conference Hall in Kohima.

He also exhorted the officers deputed in the line departments to cover all the required data, verify and authenticate it before sending to the departments.

The advisor urged the deputed officers in the Agri-allied sectors to cover and know the status of the state economy if the schemes being implemented were beneficial. Likewise, he also directed the deputed officer in the other line departments like Revenue Generation department, Health and Education department, Road sector, Tourism etc. to collect all the data and submit accordingly.

He told the deputed officers to discuss the anomalies, if any, with the department, while extending their co-operation.

Since the Statistical Handbook is the mirror of the state, the advisor told the gathering that the book should not be taken for granted.

He urged the deputed officers to be sincere, active and submit reports on a daily basis.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the additional director and HoD, Economics and Statistics, Neidilhou Angami, said the programme was organised to understand the nature and scope of statistics in the line department and also to evaluate the performance of the statistical staff posted in the line departments.

He informed that the department had set up and posted a statistical cell in 34 line departments with strength of 134 staff.

He maintained that the officers and staff of the statistical cell play an important role and were considered as the backbone of the department in providing the line department-statistical data.

‘They are supposed to lead and guide the line department in all the surveys and other related statistical activities,’ he said.

The official also stated that during the programme, the department is expecting to explore the activities that have been conducted and implemented by the line departments; explore ways and means to collect statistics and at the same time know and understand the difficulties faced by the staff while deputed in the line department.

On the occasion, the advisor also released its annual price bulletin 2021 published by the department.
