NWA to organise freestyle wrestling championship

Kohima, Nov. 23 (EMN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) will be organising the senior (above 18) freestyle wrestling championship at Indira Gandhi Stadium on November 26 at 10 am.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Kohima, NWA President Hiabe Zeliang informed that there will be a total of 11 slots including six categories in men and five in women. Body weight of the wrestlers will be taken on Nov. 25 at IG Stadium.
The wrestling bodies of Angami, Chakhesang, Zeliang and Wokha district wrestling associations have confirmed participation, he said while extending invitations to other districts to participate in the event.
A cash prize pool of INR 2.42 lakh is being arranged for a total of 33 position holders. Cash award of INR 8000 each will be given to 11 position holders as first prize, INR 6000 each to 11 position holders for second place and INR 4000 each will be given to 22 position holders in third place.
However, the NWA informed that there will be no cash award if that category is less than eight wrestlers, it informed.
The first position holders will represent Nagaland in the national selection to be held in December–ideally conducted by the national wrestling body –to select wrestlers for the national games.
Those selected will be permitted to take part in the national games, NWA informed.
The wrestling bodies have requested to send at least five wrestlers for different categories in men and three wrestlers in the categories of women.
A nominal entry ticket of INR 200 will be realised from the spectators, it informed further.
Advisor of Fire and Emergency Services and SIRD, Pohwang Konyak and former NWA president K Puro will attend the occasion.
