NSF Trophy: Viswemi FC’s run ends as Red Scars FC win match 2-0

KOHIMA — In a gripping showdown at the 23rd edition of the NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy held at the IG Stadium in Kohima, Tuesday marked the culmination of Viswemi FC’s campaign as Red Scars FC displayed their football prowess, securing a coveted spot in the quarterfinals.

The pre-quarterfinal witnessed an impressive performance by Red Scars FC, culminating in a 2-0 victory over their opponents, Viswemi FC.

The turning point for Red Scars FC came when Sentilong (66) netted the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, instilling confidence in the team as they headed into halftime with a lead.

The second half saw Yhunshalo Kemp (9) further solidify their dominance, scoring a crucial second goal for Red Scars FC in the 65th minute, sealing their victory and progression to the quarterfinals.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Horlan (16) of Red Scars FC, and it was presented by Metebo-o Sote, secretary games and sports, Angami Students’ Union.

Out of the initial 34 teams that set out on this journey, the remaining strong contenders vying for the trophy include New Market FC, A Yhome FC, End of an Era, Liangmai FC, Asufü Football Academy, United FC Piphema, Football for Change Academy, and now, Red Scars FC.

Following a brief respite, the quarterfinal matches are set to resume on October 5. The night matches would kick off at 5 pm, with one match scheduled for each day, culminating in the grand final showdown slated for October 14.

On October 5, New Market FC will face A Yhome FC in the first quarterfinal match. On October 6, End of an Era will face Liangmai FC in another exciting match.

Asufü Football Academy will compete against United FC Piphema on October 7. Finally, on October 9, fans will witness a match between Football for Change Academy and Red Scars FC, which promises to deliver more football excitement and drama.
