NPF appeals to reschedule bye-election counting date

DIMAPUR — Secretary General of the Naga People's Front (NPF), Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI), urging it to reconsider the date of counting for the upcoming elections in various states including Nagaland.

The concern is especially for the bye-election in Nagaland's 43 Tapi Assembly Constituency, scheduled for November 7. The counting day, December 7, falls on a Sunday, “a very solemn Day of Worship for the entire Christians,” Kikon stated in the letter addressed to ECI Secretary Sanjeev Kumar Prasad.

With Nagaland being a “state where 90% of the citizens are Christians,” the NPF has called on the ECI to reconsider the counting date.
