KOHIMA — The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for conduct of bye-election to the 43-Tapi  Assembly Constituency in Mon district, Nagaland.

The bye-election has been necessitated by the demise of sitting MLA and Advisor of Social Welfare, Noke Wangnao, who died on August 28 after being elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for the ninth time this year on Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket.

The bye-election to the 43-Tapi A/C will be held on November 7, for which the gazette notification will be issued on October 13, according to an update from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland.

The last date for nominations is October 20, before it is scrutinised on the following day, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is October 23. The votes will be counted on December 3, close to one month after the elections are held on November 7.

“Consequent on the announcement of the schedule for the conduct of bye-election to 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency, 2023, the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect in the district of Mon and shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties, and the state government and to the union government,” read the press release from CEO.
