KOHIMA — The Naga People’s Front (NPF) announced Kachui Timothy Zimik as its candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency, putting an end to speculations.
The decision was finalised during the NPF’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the party’s central office in Kohima on Wednesday.
Zimik is a retired Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax from the Ministry of Finance (Revenue), Government of India.
Party sources also revealed that the official party ticket distribution will take place on Thursday 12 noon at the party's central office in Kohima.
Initially, there were four contenders for the party ticket, including the incumbent MP Dr. S Lorho Pfoze, before the CWC unanimously resolved to field Zimik.
In Manipur, the Inner Manipur seat is scheduled for polls on April 19, while the polling in the Outer Manipur seat will be held in two phases -- April 19 and the 26th – in view of the ongoing crisis in the state. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
The official notification for the elections will be issued on March 20, with the last date for nomination set for March 27, scrutiny of nominations on March 28, and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations on March 30.
Meanwhile, according to a copy of the CWC’s resolution, accessed by Eastern Mirror, the committee also deliberated on an application submitted by Happa Taidong, seeking the party ticket for the upcoming Assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh.
The CWC resolved to further examine the party’s position before taking a decision on the matter.
