North-Eastern Hill University lodges FIR in Naga student ragging case
KOHIMA — The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has lodged an FIR on the alleged ragging of a first-semester student from Nagaland at Arbella Boys’ Hostel, Chasingre, on October 8.
Confirming this to Eastern Mirror, the Angami Students’ Union Shillong president Ruokuohuzo Khiezhie said that the student community had a meeting with the university officials on October 16 in connection with the case.
The officials informed that two teams were dispatched to Tura campus to investigate the matter, following which the university decided to file an FIR, said the student leader.

The NEHU fact-finding committee, which was constituted to probe into the alleged ragging incident, had handed its findings to the police and filed an FIR, and they are now waiting for the police to nab the culprits, it was informed.
The university also assured the student community that it would follow the anti-ragging policy and that severe punishment would be given to the perpetrators, once identified, said Khiezhie.
Requesting the student body’s patience on the matter, the university officials said that they would put pressure on the police to investigate the matter.
Accordingly, the student body decided to give the university “sometime”, against its earlier decision to take necessary steps if the outcome of the fact-finding committee report was not satisfactory.
It may be mentioned that a student from Nagaland, enrolled in the department of Agri-Business Management, Tura campus, NEHU, was allegedly ragged by a group of ‘seniors’ on October 8 at Arbella Boys’ Hostel, following which the student came back home and filed an FIR from Kohima.
The West Garo Hills police, on receipt of an “emailed” copy of the FIR, had since initiated an investigation into the ragging case.
