KOHIMA — The North East leaders meet for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) was held on Sunday at the ACTA Bhavan, Guwahati, bringing together service associations and representatives from various North Eastern states who are actively working towards the restoration of Old Pension System (OPS) for government employees.
According to an update, the meeting participants had detailed deliberations on the challenges posed by the National Pension System (NPS) and stressed the urgent need to revert to the assured, defined-benefit Old Pension Scheme to ensure financial security and dignity in retirement for government employees across the region.
Subsequently, the participating associations and leaders resolved to unite as one strong collective voice and to jointly appeal to their respective state governments, as well as the central government where applicable, for the immediate restoration of OPS across the entire North East region.

To strengthen and coordinate the region-wide movement, a coordination committee was constituted under the banner of the North East Govt. Employees Welfare Federation.
The committee will serve as a unified platform to coordinate efforts, plan joint actions and formally pursue the issue with governments at all levels.
It was also decided that the next leadership meeting of the North East Govt. Employees Welfare Federation will be held on February 14 in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, to review progress and chart out further intensified campaigns.
From Nagaland, Avizo Nienu, president of Nagaland NPS Forum (NNPSGSEF) and finance secretary Adabe Namgi, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Nienu stated that the Nagaland NPS Forum has submitted several representations to the Government of Nagaland seeking restoration of OPS, but no positive response has been received so far.
He maintained that the coming together of leaders from across the North East is the need of the hour.
Nienu stressed that all government employees from the North Eastern states must unite, cooperate fully and speak with one voice.
He said, "We must not allow any organisation or government to exploit divisions through a ‘divide and rule’ approach. Together, we can achieve the restoration of OPS and secure a better future for ourselves and our families."
The North East Govt. Employees Welfare Federation and its coordination committee will continue sustained efforts until the Old Pension Scheme is restored in all North Eastern states, it stated.
