Patton extends Tokhü Emong greetings
DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has, on behalf of the state BJP legislators and his own behalf, extended Tokhü Emong greetings to the Lotha community. The deputy CM in his greetings said that the festival, held after a hard-earned harvest, dwelled on the spirit of unity, reconciliation and forgiveness. “This is also a time to showcase the rich cultural heritage of our forefathers by partaking in it,” Patton said.
DDCF appeals to DMC on vacation notice
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has appealed to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to defer the vacation notice served to allottees of New Market (western side).
The DDCF in a press release pointed out that the DMC’s vacation order served on Oct. 9, will affect more that 200 shops including some residences in the area, directly or indirectly. “With the onset of the festive season and the increase in shoppers during this season, vacation at this moment will even affect shoppers from within and outside Dimapur and Nagaland,” the forum said. While appealing to the DMC to defer the notice, the DDCF also requested the council to make alternative arrangement to relocate shops and residents falling under the vacation process, within New Market area itself.
Unions flay workmanship of Doyang bridge
DIMAPUR — The Ralan Area Lotha Hoho (RALH) and Yamhon Area Public Organisation (YAPO) have expressed “strong displeasure over the poor workmanship” of the Doyang RCC Bridge at Governor’s camp (Liphanyan). “The said bridge has been completed only in the early part of 2023, however, major crack has appeared in the runway slap at the rear end of one side of the bridge, thereby movement of all type of vehicle has to be stopped for the past two months, which is causing a lot of inconvenience to the public of both Ralan and Yamhon Area in particular,” the two unions said in a joint press statement. The unions appealed to the concerned authority, department and contractor to undertake immediate initiatives to repair the damage portion of the bridge.
Kohima police recovers suspected contraband
DIMAPUR — Police personnel posted at Khuzama check gate, during routine checking of vehicles on Nov. 5, recovered 110 soap cases of suspected heroin weighing approximately 1560 gm. Kohima Police in an update informed that the contraband was concealed in a dumper truck coming from the neighbouring state of Manipur. One person namely Md. Shahjahan (27 yrs) has been arrested in this connection, police said.
NSCN (Akato) conveys festive greetings
DIMAPUR — The NSCN/GPRN (Akato) has conveyed festival greetings on the occasion of Tokhu Emong, the post-harvest festival of the Lotha tribe. “Tokhu in Lotha means ‘feast’ and Emong means ‘rest,’ which is celebrated to signify the end of harvest season and the people rejuvenate themselves after a tremendous hard work in the fields,” the NSCN group said. “The Lothas are one of the advanced Naga tribe who are known for their hard work, dedication and sincerity and the NSCN is optimistic that with these qualities, our Lotha brothers and sisters will continue to shine and an inspiration to others,” the group said.
