NEIFT to present 17th edition of ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’ in Milan
DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT), in association with the Consulate General of India, Milan, will be organising the 17th edition of the mega event ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’ on September 9 at the historic museum – Villa Necchi Campiglio – in Milan, Italy.
After the success of last year’s International Edition in Washington DC, USA, this is a huge challenge for NEIFT, led by its CEO and the festival Director Vikram Rai Medhi, to showcase the rich heritage of sustainable textiles of Northeast India in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, an update stated.
“The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism have come forward to join hands in presenting the vibrant region of the country to the who’s who of Milan’s cultural connoisseurs and political leaders. Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, etc. have come forward to support and be associated with the festival,” Medhi said during a press conference.
Senior PRO, Government of Nagaland, Lisapila Aier, said that the festival will be a curtain raiser for European tourists as the ‘Hornbill Festival’ will be celebrating its silver jubilee next year.
Milan being the cultural capital of Italy, Nagaland will get an opportunity to showcase its rich heritage to the European community, Aier said.
Eight fashion designers from NER will display their exotic collection in sustainable textiles and weaves of Northeast India to be showcased by the top models of the Milan fashion industry.
The folk dancers of the Northeast will also “create a magical evening” during the event.
A strong contingent of delegates from the Northeast comprising of performers, designers, models, artistes and officials are travelling to participate and attend the programme, it stated.
